Significance & Purpose
- The selection process by the Web of Science (Science Citation Index Expanded, Social Sciences Citation Index, Arts & Humanities Citation Index) consists of evaluation of many criteria such as, Basic Journal Publishing Standards (including Timeliness of publication, adherence to International Editorial Conventions, English Language Bibliographic Information (including English article titles, keywords, author abstracts, and cited references).
- Thomson Reuters also examines the journal's Editorial Content, the International Diversity of it authors and editors. Citation Analysis using Thomson Reuters’ data is applied to determine the journal's citation history and/or the citation history of its authors and editors.
- The Web of Science has been a mandated tool for the Chinese academia and professionals to conduct research time more efficiently. This workshop is designed to include some detailed information and analysis of the selection process conducted by the Web of Science.
Potential Coverage and Deliveries
- Using the search interfaces for topic, author, source title, and address searching, as well as more advanced set and field combination searching
- How to expand literature search using the unique related records search
- How to use cited reference searching to discover who is citing the individual researches and the research of others
- E-mailing, saving, printing, or exporting the research results
- Saving a search history so as to use it later to find new information
- Saving alerts to automatically run the profile against database updates

This short workshop is intended for faculty, researchers, graduate students, and information specialists. It may be of particular interest to those who will be coming up for promotion or tenure review in the social sciences field in the near future.
